Advice For Brides

Do your Homework
Use the variety of resources available to you to get an idea of what you are looking for - for example, bridal magazines, internet and wedding expos are good places to start.

Timing
Start your search at least 9-12 months before your wedding day so you can relax and enjoy it.
Order your wedding dress 6-8 months prior to your wedding date.

Choose your accessories when your actual dress has arrived. It is better for you to decide on your accessories when you are actually standing in your dress and understand better the theme of your wedding.

Making Your Appointments
Make a list of the bridal boutiques you'd like to visit by area location. Schedule your appointments to visit the boutiques per area location; giving yourself at least 30mins travel time between appointments. You should expect appointments to be between 1-2 hours long (confirm this with the boutique). Most bridal boutiques charge either a fitting fee or a consultation fee; ensure you ask about this prior to making your appointment.

Try to Keep an Open Mind
You will be amazed when you start to try all the fabulous dress styles, fabrics and colours available; how your ideas might start to develop into something completely different...so keep an open mind. Your bridal consultant should be able to advise and guide you on the best suitable dress styles to suit your body shape.

Work with your Body Shape....

Short and Fuller Figure:
A princess or A-line wedding dress elongates the body especially if it is slightly dropped at the waist. Corseted bodices will structure the figure whilst a soft flowing skirt will contour you curves. Try to avoid a too fuller skirt as this will overpower your frame.

Short and Slim Figure:
Long fitted column dresses visually extend the silhouette. Vertical pleats give the illusion of length. Empire lines will accentuate a small bust and strapless styles are easier to wear. Create curves with a belted dress or rouched bodice.

Curvy Hourglass Figure:
Fishtail shaped wedding dresses celebrate a classic curvy bride adding red carpet glamour that your groom will adore. A-line and princess shaped dresses skim over the hips; the fitted bodice slims and shapes cinching in the waist.
Go all out on a full skirt, your body shape can work this look with ease.

Tall & Slim Figure:
Tiered and two piece wedding dresses will reduce the impression of height
Waist detail helps to divide the look. Halter neck styles broaden shoulders, adding width to slender shoulders.

How To Take Your Measurements:

What you need: A tape measure. Take the measurements undressed (wear a pair of panties - no bra). Your tape measure should feel snug, but not too tight (do not pull tight on the tape measure to get a smaller measurement). Stand up straight and tall. Note down the measurement in inches.

Bust: Around the fullest part of the bust, across the nipples. Place thumb or finger beneath tape measure when taking bust measurement.

Waist: To find your waist, bend to one side, deepest wrinkle is your waist (usually just above the bellybutton).

Hips: Measure hip width around the fullest part of hips and buttocks (level with your hip bone).
